DESCRIPTION OF THE SALES and MARKET SHARE REPORT

 

The Sales and Market Share report provides sales volume, rate of growth and market share. All dollars are manufacturer sales, not retail.

It tracks the following product categories and sub-categories:

Skin Care (facial treatment and sun care)

Color Cosmetics (face makeup, eye makeup, lip color, nail color,and
"other" which includes applicators & organizers)

Body & Bath (corrective hand & body, bath & shower products,
aromatherapy and home fragrance)

Women's Fragrance (perfumes/colognes, ancillary products)

Men's Products (cologne/aftershave, ancillaries, treatment)

Sales, growth and market share for each of the primary categories (Skin Care, Color, etc.) is broken down
by distribution channel:

Prestige - department stores, specialty stores and chain department stores, such as Macy's,
Neiman-Marcus and Kohl's

Broad - drug stores, food stores, cosmetic discounters, warehouse clubs, and mass merchandisers.
Examples are Eckerd, Pathmark, Sam's Price Club and Wal-Mart.

Alternative - is made up of five different marketing methods:

Direct Sales (including Avon, BeautiControl, Mary Kay, etc.)

Direct Mail/TV/Print/Internet (including Yves Rocher, Victoria Jackson, Clientele)

Free Standing Stores (including Body Shop, Bath & Body Works, Merle Norman, Sephora, Ulta)

Health Food Stores (including CamoCare, Kiss My Face, Rachel Perry, Zia)

Salons/Spas (including Aveda, Matrix, Murad, Peter Thomas Roth, doctors' brands)
